MGB Rear Engine Inspection Plug
There is a rubber plug in the rear engine plate on MGB engines. It is low down, on the passenger side of the engine. It is close to the bottom of the engine plate, below the engine block. I’m really not sure why they chose to install an inspection plug on that part of the engine. If you pull out the plug, you will be looking at the front face of the flywheel. All you will see is a lot of dirt and guk. I suppose you would know if the rear crank seal or the front trans seal is leaking badly because this area might even fill with oil…
The inspection plug is rubber. Since all MGB engines leak at least a little at the back, the rubber plug gets oil soaked and deteriorates…
