Description

MGB & MGA Valve Cover Oil Leaks

These engines often have oil leaks. The valve cover gasket often cracks and then begins leaking. Oil drools down the side of the engine making a mess of everything.

As if that isn’t enough, the rubber sealing bushes rot away and leak oil out around the two studs that hold the valve cover onto the engine.

Engine heat, combined with motor oil, does a real number on these rubber bushes.  They swell up and crack, resulting in big oil leaks.

Obviously it makes sense to replace all these components at the same time.

I can’t think of a better thing to do while you’ve got the valve cover off for valve lash adjustment!!

Installing these parts is quick and easy and very rewarding to boot!

Side Cover (Tappet Chest) Gaskets

All MGBs-and MGAs for that matter, use two identical side cover gaskets.

It goes without saying that they are to be replaced during a complete engine overhaul. They are in fact included in the lower engine gasket set.

At times these gaskets become leakers and it is a frustrating problem. The side covers are located below the intake & exhaust manifolds. This makes access very poor.

Since there is a lot of oil present in this part of the engine, any gasket leaks will make a big mess under the car!

We have both cork and rubber gaskets available for replacement. I have heard numerous people say very different things regarding their preference with these gaskets.

I’ll leave it up to you…

Either of these gaskets will fit any MGB engine.

Two needed.

ENCAPGFE6003

MGB Oil Filler Cap-Vented

This is the “tall” plastic cap, correct for most 63-70 cars.

Often, the plastic locking flange breaks away on the bottom of this cap. Crankcase pressure then blows smoke and oil out around the cap. This results in more oil leaking onto the engine and inside the engine compartment.

Installing a new cap will fix the trouble.

ENCAP12A402

MGB Oil Filler Cap-Non-Vented

This is the correct “short” plastic cap, correct for most 71-80 cars.

Cap comes with securing strap.
